Are you looking for a unique and memorable way to explore the charming villages of the Cotswolds?
Look no further than the Cotswold Heritage Tour! Our 6-day walking tour is designed to take you on a journey through some of the most picturesque and historic villages in the region.
On Day Three, cross the high wolds to Stow-on-the-Wold, complete with village stocks and picturesque square, via the fantastic Mogul manor house at Sezincote and a number of pretty hamlets. Overnight in Stow-on-the-Wold. Arrive before 4pm to enjoy a complimentary cream tea in a traditional village tearoom.)
On Day Six, after breakfast, transfer to Bibury, the village described by William Morris as “the most beautiful village in England”. Choose whether to explore the village and do a short circular walk or undertake a longer loop trail that goes to Coln Saint Aldwyns. This longer circular walk takes you around the delightful village of Bibury and the surrounding countryside. Bibury is a typically lovely Cotswolds village with pretty stone cottages and a wonderful Saxon church. This walk takes you through the village and then along a riverside footpath to the nearby village of Coln St Aldwyns. You'll follow the River Colne into the village before returning to Bibury through the countryside on footpaths and bridleways. You'll also pass the famous Arlington Row cottages, built in the 14th century. The picturesque dwellings are one of the most photographed Cotswold scenes.
In Coln St Aldwyns you'll find an old mill house, a Norman church and a fine 16th century inn for refreshment. Near here you could also visit pretty Quenington with its large medieval dovecote and a Grade I listed church built mainly in the 11th century. Arrive at the B&B by 4 pm to enjoy a slice of homemade carrot cake and a pot of tea.
For your last day join the trail and head to Chedworth Roman Villa. This was rediscovered by the Victorians over 150 years ago and provides a unique insight into life during the Roman period in Britain. A modern conservation building provides exceptional access to the extensive mosaic floors, hypocaust systems and bath house rooms. A small museum houses a range of finds and artefacts from the villa. This is a 16 mile walk and there is an optional on of arranging to be transferred to Chedworth and walking back to your B&B. There are also many other shorter walks that can be chosen from on your final day.
Enjoy our English hospitality in charming B&B’s owned and operated by the Cotwold Walks. In the exceptional event that our own properties are full we may use other B&B’s in the villages.
The B&B’s are comfortable and centrally located and are alll within easy walking distance of restaurants and shops. Prices are based upon two people sharing and all include breakfast.
A brilliant location, and room 5 was large, warm and had a huge bed! A lovely breakfast was served, and the couple who ran the BB were friendly and helpful. We would definitely return!
We selected Davenford Stow Gardens as a base for a stay in the Cotswolds. The team were extremely helpful during the booking process and we received excellent instructions about the check-in process, parking and what to do/where to eat during our stay. Breakfasts were excellent as were the afternoon tea scones which we ended up taking away with us! The room was spacious, clean and very comfortable, and quiet at night even though we were facing the street. A very relaxing stay and we will hope to do again.
